On October 27, 2008 Senator Ted Stevens (Alaska) was convicted of all seven counts in his criminal trial where he was charged with misrepresenting on Senate reporting forms a number of gifts received from constituents. This site contains 55 pages of information about the trial, and is organized around iPaper delivery of news clippings, court documents, and exhibits with links provided to the original source materials in order to make it simple for readers to view the extensive case material in one site.
About
.
As you might easily guess without reading this explanation, this site was created to demonstrate to the United States Department of Justice the ease of presenting e-documents for compliance with Brady, Jencks, and for evidence rules documents production purposes without dramatic and overly inclusive documents dumps.
These large and disorganized prosecutor document dumps create havoc for defense counsel and judges. They're unnecessary. It's 2008, ... WE HAVE iPaper.
In U.S. v. Theodore F. Stevens, Washington D.C. District Judge Emmet Sullivan blew his usual cool, lost his normally balanced temper, and exploded in anger at the prosecutors for failure to produce evidence easily available both by paper and e-discovery and e-document delivery and presentation.
.
Department of Justice attorneys and office staff support: shame on you. If you've got document management problems that might otherwise cause dump deliveries, just use pdf software already available to you and standardize the sizes of your evidence and documents as you scan or produce them. Transfer them over neatly and credibly to common-size pdf files and then upload them on Scribd. FOR FREE. It does not cost taxpayers an additional cent, certainly cuts down on your web-hosting requirements at Justice, and allows cleaner and faster public disclosure of case materials.
.
Incidentally, the same simple steps can be followed in delivering documents to defense counsel . . . ALL WITHOUT POINTLESSLY AND UNNECESSARILY ANGERING FEDERAL JUDICIARY.
